SPELLING

Practice spelling words. Can you think of some more with that spelling pattern?

GRAMMAR

GET THE GOOF: Write a sentence with mistakes, can you find them all?
Example: foxy licks to play in the snow << Foxy likes to play in the snow.

DECODING STRATEGIES AND HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS

Practice high frequency words (word wall words) for speed and accuracy.  When they see these words in stories, they will not have to sound them out. If your child is struggling to decode (figure out) a word, have them use their strategies  --- get their mouth ready for the first sound, use picture clues, look for small chunks or smaller words, and always think, "Did that word make sense when I read it?"

READING COMPREHENSION

Characters:  Who are the main people or animals in the story?  Who was the story about?

Setting:  Where or when was this story happening (forest, house, daytime, night)

Sequence of Events:  Beginning, Middle, and End of the story    (the flow of the story or retell)

Connection: Did this story make you think of something?  Maybe something that happened to you, something that you read about in a different story, or something you saw on a movie or tv show?
