Guided Reading
Your child has words on a keyring in their Guided Reading folder.  These are kindergarten's high frequency words.  Please practice these words with your child every night.  There are several ways to do this.

1.  Flashcards - reading the words
2.  Identify - find the words in text
3.  Spelling - have your child spell the words for you
4.  Matching - say the word and have your child find it

It is very important for you to listen to your child read his or her guided reading book everynight.  After reading, talk about the book.

1.  What was your favorite part?
2.  What happened at the beginning of the story?
3.  What happened in the middle of the story?
4.  What happened at the end of the story?
5.  Who were the main characters in the story?
6.  What is the setting?  Where did the story take place?
7.  What was the plot?  What was the problem in the story?

Please make sure you sign your child's guided reading paper each night.  By signing your child's paper every night for a week, they will earn a ticket for the carnival at the end of the school year.  If they continue to do their guided reading homework, they will earn several tickets for the games and treats at the carnival.
